Winner of the “EcoStyle Without Borders” Competition Announced
We now know the winner of the “EcoStyle Without Borders” competition for an environmentally friendly outfit made from recycled materials, announced by the Mayor of Ostrołęka, Paweł Niewiadomski. The initiative is being carried out under the Polish-Swiss Urban Development Programme.
Five entries were submitted to the competition. Each handmade outfit was different, unique and deserving of praise and recognition. Thank you for taking on the challenge in your free time and showing that interesting and creative designs can be made from recycled materials.
Voting began on 17 April during the event inaugurating the “Ostrołęka – Young People at the Centre” project at the A. Gołaś Sports and Entertainment Hall, where 167 votes were cast. From 20 April until 10:00 a.m. on 30 April, residents were also able to vote online via a link shared through the City of Ostrołęka’s media channels, casting a further 104 votes. A total of 271 votes were received!
The competition results are as follows:
1st place – 132 votes (48.7%) – outfit: “Knight” (entry no. 3)
2nd place – 69 votes (25.5%) – outfit: “Eco-Chic” (entry no. 5)
3rd place – 41 votes (15.1%) – outfit: “Ball Gown” (entry no. 4)
4th place – 17 votes (6.3%) – outfit: “Pastel Craze” (entry no. 1)
5th place – 12 votes (4.4%) – outfit: “Rose Outfit” (entry no. 2)
All participants will be informed about the date of the award ceremony in the coming days.
Descriptions of the outfits:
“Knight” (entry no. 3) – the outfit was made from various types of recycled materials, including bubble wrap, a rubbish bag and cardboard.
“Eco-Chic” (entry no. 5) – the outfit was created from recycled materials such as paper, cardboard and plastic bottles, giving them a second life. The design was inspired by nature and flowers, which can be seen in its colours and decorations. First, a cardboard base was created. Paper was then used to make elements of the outfit and fringes. Plastic bottles were cut and shaped into flower-like decorations, which were attached to the outfit.
“Ball Gown” (entry no. 4) – the dress was made from wrapping paper, which was carefully shaped. Packaging foam was used as an additional element. The handbag was made from newspapers and rubbish bags, while the necklace was created from toilet paper rolls.
“Pastel Craze” (entry no. 1) – a hand-sewn outfit made from old trousers and two old sweatshirts that had been intended for disposal. The inspiration came from pastel colours associated with childhood.
“Rose Outfit” (entry no. 2) – a hand-sewn outfit made from old clothes that had become too small. The design was inspired by the rose flower.
The aims of the competition are to:
- promote environmentally friendly attitudes among residents of the City of Ostrołęka and the Rzekuń Municipality;
- increase environmental awareness;
- encourage the reuse of materials through recycling and upcycling;
- strengthen international cooperation, particularly Swiss-Polish cooperation;
- foster creativity and social integration.
The competition is organised under the Polish-Swiss Urban Development Programme and is co-financed by the Swiss Funds supporting the reduction of economic and social disparities in the European Union and by the Polish state budget.
